SHADOWKEEP Frontman Laying Down Vocals For New CD
April 10, 2006Vocalist Richie Wicks of the U.K. power metallers SHADOWKEEP is currently in the studio laying down tracks for the band's as-yet-untitled third album, tentatively due later in the year.
"The sessions have been phenomenal!" stated Richie, "Richard West [keyboard player with U.K.'s THRESHOLD and renowned vocal engineering specialist] has been a real force getting the best out of my voice, but it's been the music that's been the true inspiration. I thought I was happy with what I did on the TYGERS OF PAN TANG's 'Noises' (the band's swansong 2004 album 'Noises from the Cathouse') but this band has been a vocal revelation for me. I am hitting notes I never thought existed! The rest of the guys have been present most days pitching in ideas and generally laying on the support too which is cool! They're all arguing over who's gonna get the 'producer's' badge but it's clear that's going to be me (laughs)."
When asked how the new sound of SHADOWKEEP is coming along as the songs start to approach the final stages of production, Wicks replied, "Well, that would be telling! Suffice it to say that in my opinion it is simply awesome. Those involved in the recording so far have commented on major changes in the sound for the better. I don't want to comment on my own vocals, I'd rather leave that to others, but the songs are so strong and the concept theme is so hooky I can't imagine us having any trouble promoting this album. Our fans are going to love it cos we're writing it with them in mind, not us!"
So it is a concept album then? "Did I say that? Oops, well maybe it is and maybe it isn't." Any songtitles? "Well, you know about 'Ten Shades Of Black' already cos we have a version on the ProgPower 2006 CD, but the rest will be released before the end of the month."
The band hope to complete all the vocals and harmonies by Easter. More information willl be made available soon.
